Bucks County teacher arrested for student relationship www.privateofficer.com

Bucks County PA Aug 27 2009

A 43-year-old Bucks County high school teacher has been arrested on charges stemming from an alleged sexual relationship he had with a 17-year-old female student over a five-month period of time.
Other teachers in the district knew about the alleged sexual relationship and did not report it, say school officials.
Robert C. Hawkins, a math teacher at Council Rock High School South, was arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of a minor Thursday, according to authorities.
The female student was a 2009 Council rock High School South graduate, superintendent Mark Klein said in a statement. It was the district’s investigation into the alleged relationship that led to Hawkins’ arrest, said Klein

During the district’s initial investigation, Hawkins was suspended and later fired. Two other teachers were suspended and will be fired, while a third resigned from the district. The district discovered that the three teachers knew about the alleged relationship between the Hawkins and the student, yet never reported it, Klein said.
Hawkins, who lives on the 1800 block of Society Place in Newtown, Pa., was released after posting bail, on the condition that he stays away from the girl, all minors, and all Council Rock schools, reports the Inquirer.
Hawkins initiated phone conversations and text messaging with the girl in November, according to a police affidavit. The affidavit also states that more than 6,000 messages were exchanged; the two had sex several times at Hawkins’ house; and that Hawkins showed the girl sexually explicit pictures on his laptop of another female student, reports the Inquirer.
“This is offensive,” Bucks County District Attorney Michelle Henry told the Inquirer. “Parents send their children to school for an education, not to be preyed upon by their teachers. This student is not just a minor, but one of his own students.”
Police are investigating whether or not other teachers were aware of the relationship, said Henry

Housing security officer discovers meth lab www.privateofficer.com

PICAYUNE MS Aug 27 2009 — A public housing security officer attempting to serve paperwork to a resident on Lewis Circle found what he believed to be methamphetamine activity.

Picayune Police Deputy Chief David Ervin said the department received a call about the find at about 5:22 p.m. on Tuesday from the security officer. Apparently the security officer was attempting to serve some paper work and when 31 year-old Adam Hagen answered the door of his home at 504 Lewis Circle. When Hagen opened the door, the security officer could smell a strong chemical odor that caused him to cough and saw in plain view what he believed to be an active methamphetamine lab.

Officers with the department were sent out and as soon as they got out of their car, they too could smell an odor of what they thought to be an active methamphetamine lab. Ervin said consent to search the residence was secured from Hagen and in the home the officers found precursor chemicals and pink and white colored granular substances believed to be methamphetamine. Officers also found what they believed to be an active methamphetamine lab in the home.

Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents were called out, who in turn notified the Drug Enforcement Agency. Clean up services also were called out to remove the dangerous chemicals in the home. The residence was secured and photographed and samples were taken, Ervin said.

Hagen and another suspect, Philip A. Milner, 26, of 29 Sam Powell Rd., were both charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school and possession of precursor chemicals.

Slate was also charged with one misdemeanor count of annoying or molesting a child, Cornell said.
