The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that the 1-year-old pit bull chewed off all the toes on the child’s left foot while he was on a couch Sunday night.
Deputies say the child’s mother, Robie Lynn Jenkins, and her boyfriend, Tremayne Spillman, were dog-sitting for a man arrested Saturday night on a charge of illegal possession of a gun.
Jenkins told police she was on medication and didn’t hear the child crying during the night while she slept in the same room.

Security officer robs ex-employer’s store www.privateofficer.com
One of the robbers was arrested Saturday afternoon, but police were still searching for two accomplices.
After reviewing surveillance videos and interviewing mall employees, Town of Woodbury police pieced together the following information about the alleged robbery.
Two men and a woman sneaked in through a back door at the G-Star Raw outlet shortly after 9 p.m. The robbers hid in a bathroom at the denim store until employees closed up for the night. The three included Jim E. Palomon, 31, of New Windsor, who worked as a security guard at the store until about two weeks ago. The suspects wore rags over their faces to conceal their identities.
As they emerged from the bathroom, the three began hitting the workers and flashing a black and silver handgun at them. One employee was cut across the head so badly that he required nine staples. It’s unclear whether he was punched or pistol-whipped.
The robbers forced employees to open the store’s safe and stole an undetermined amount of cash. Before fleeing in a black Range Rover, the suspects bound the employees with duct tape and locked them in the bathroom, using an electric cord to tie the bathroom handle to another nearby door.
One of the employees freed himself from the duct tape and called 911 at about 9:15 p.m. The first officer to arrive at Woodbury Common closed all the exits and entrances onto Route 32. The 220-store mall was locked down for about 30 minutes while police peered into cars and combed the surrounding woods, looking for the robbers.
Palomon was arrested about 12:30 p.m. Saturday at his home on Kenwood Drive in New Windsor. Woodbury police Sgt. Clifford Weeks said workers were able to identify Palomon on the suveillance video because his face covering had slipped off. The gun that police believe was used in the robbery was also recovered at the house. Palomon was charged with robbery, assault and unlawful imprisonment, all felonies.
Meanwhile, employees posted a sign at the G-Star Raw outlet, which sells luxury jeans for hundreds of dollars, announcing it was closed Saturday. Police are continuing to investigate and expect more arrests.

Three security officers stabbed during altercation www.privateofficer.com
Three security guards were stabbed outside a Farmingville bar early today after an altercation that ensued when a patron refused to pay a $5 cover charge, Suffolk County police said.
After the man refused to pay the fee, he and five friends caused a disturbance outside Las Tejas bar on Portion Road at 2:30 a.m., police said. Security guards approached the group, and three of the guards were stabbed, police said.
Two of the guards, Jason Molloy of Centereach and Daniel Romero of Shirley, were treated and released from hospitals for injuries, police said. The third guard, John Elliot of Lake Ronkonkoma, is in stable condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center, police said. None of the injuries is considered life threatening, police said.
Police, who are still investigating the incident, said they are not sure how many of the group stabbed guards. The group fled in a red Nissan, police said.
The group of six men began fighting among themselves after the first man refused to pay the cover charge, said Suffolk Detective Sgt. Frank Stewart. He said the disturbance may have been a ploy to attract the attention of security guards.
“We’re not sure how many stabbers there were, or if we have one or if we have more than one at this time,” Stewart said.
Police have no suspects at this time, Stewart said.
Suffolk police ask anyone with information on the incident to call 631-854-8652 or 1-800-220-TIPS. Calls will be confidential, police said.

Security officer busts teen burglars www.privateofficer.com
Jacob Lee Wolfe, 18, Dean Meriaz, 17, and a 16-year-old female, all from Warner Robins, each face a felony charge of attempted burglary after the 10:05 p.m. attempted break-in, said Houston County sheriff’s Sgt. Al Elvins.
Wolfe and Meriaz were being held in the Houston County jail, while the girl was released to the custody of her parents, Elvins said. Her case will go through Houston County Juvenile Court.
A security officer on-duty at the golf club surprised the teenagers as they were attempting to burglarize a building near the pool. They took off running, leaving the vehicle they came in behind, Elvins said. The security guard then called authorities.
Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Mayhew and a police dog, Bandit, tracked the teenagers to a home on Falcon Crest less than a half-mile away, Elvins said.
Neal Swartz, the security officer, noticed a 1997 Honda Passport parked near the tennis courts. Swartz said he figured some teenagers might have entered the pool after hours for a swim and he went to investigate, according to the incident report.
The doorknob to the building was broken off, the incident report said.
The teenagers told police they attempted to break into the building to get candy and drinks, Elvins said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Elvins at 542-2085
