Farmingville NY Sept 1 2009

Three security guards were stabbed outside a Farmingville bar early today after an altercation that ensued when a patron refused to pay a $5 cover charge, Suffolk County police said.
After the man refused to pay the fee, he and five friends caused a disturbance outside Las Tejas bar on Portion Road at 2:30 a.m., police said. Security guards approached the group, and three of the guards were stabbed, police said.
Two of the guards, Jason Molloy of Centereach and Daniel Romero of Shirley, were treated and released from hospitals for injuries, police said. The third guard, John Elliot of Lake Ronkonkoma, is in stable condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center, police said. None of the injuries is considered life threatening, police said.
Police, who are still investigating the incident, said they are not sure how many of the group stabbed guards. The group fled in a red Nissan, police said.
The group of six men began fighting among themselves after the first man refused to pay the cover charge, said Suffolk Detective Sgt. Frank Stewart. He said the disturbance may have been a ploy to attract the attention of security guards.
“We’re not sure how many stabbers there were, or if we have one or if we have more than one at this time,” Stewart said.
Police have no suspects at this time, Stewart said.
Suffolk police ask anyone with information on the incident to call 631-854-8652 or 1-800-220-TIPS. Calls will be confidential, police said.
