Gang members shoot at security officer www.privateofficer.com
A police canine unit tracked the gunman but eventually lost his scent.
The guard, Kaylon Cunningham, told police that there was a fight between two rival gangs, the Grape Street Crips and the Gangster Disciples. He said he asked the Crips to leave but that they came back later to the Grove Apartments, shooting and targeted him.
“We have stepped up our efforts to combat the problems with gangs,” said Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans. “We are not going to stand for it in our city.”
Once police find the shooter, he will face reckless endangerment and aggravated assault charges.

Murder suspect surrenders to security officer www.privateofficer.com
One woman was stabbed to death by her husband of more than 30 years, and a young man and woman just months into a relationship — both students at Cal State East Bay — died in a murder-suicide, police said.
About 5:15 a.m., 53-year-old Aisha Ali was stabbed to death inside a residence in the 4500 block of Penniman Avenue near High Street, police said.
Police said the woman’s 55-year-old husband, Ahmed Ali, an unemployed merchant seaman, ran out of the home, flagged down a passing security guard and surrendered. The guard then turned the man over to Oakland police.
Ahmed Ali admitted to stabbing his wife in her sleep, police said. Relatives told police the couple has six children, four of whom live in the Bay Area and two in Yemen. The oldest son is 30.
At least one of their children may have been in the residence at the time of the stabbing, police said.
The home is a duplex on the cul-de-sac portion of Penniman, about three houses down from the playground area of Maxwell Park Elementary School. A neighbor, who didn’t want her name published, said the couple has lived there for several years. She said Aisha Ali was friendly but did not speak English.
“The husband was very friendly and always said hello. We talked about the weather and the usual neighborhood things,” the neighbor said. “I never knew of any problems there. They were nice neighbors. This was just really shocking.”
In a separate incident, an apparent murder-suicide, Eric Hicks Jr., 23, a Cal State East Bay student, drove with 19-year-old Elisa Davis, of Downey, to a relative’s apartment building on the corner of 84th Avenue and International Boulevard.
He pulled into the driveway, the two struggled in the car and Davis was shot to death, police said. Hicks then went inside the relative’s apartment and shot and killed himself, police said.
Davis was also a student at the university, where she was a resident in student housing, confirmed university spokeswoman Monique Beeler. Police say the two had known each other for almost two years.
“We are so saddened by the loss of these young people, and our prayers and thoughts go out to their families,” Beeler said. The university is offering grief counseling services for students and staff.
Hicks, who worked at Oakland International Airport refueling airplanes, had played football at Bakersfield Junior College on the Bakersfield Renegades, police said. In 2004, he was known as a football, baseball and wrestling star at Oakland High School.
Hicks’ uncle, Roderick Jenson, 51, arrived at the crime scene Thursday morning.
“It’s a sad day for our family,” he said, adding that he wanted to express condolences to Davis’ family as well. “This tragedy affects both families. It’s very sad.”
Jenson described his nephew as “a pretty steady kid.”
“He never partied, never went out,” he said. “He went to school, and he worked. He was a well-grounded kid, but you never know what’s going on in their lives.”
The killings mark Oakland’s 87th and 88th homicides of the year. There were 105 homicides at this time last year. In 2008, there were seven homicides involving domestic violence, police said. Thursday’s deaths bring the total of domestic violence-related homicides for 2009 to eight.

Alabama teacher arrested in drug sting www.privateofficer.com
Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin said Kelly Ball, 46, was released on $5,000 bail early Friday, charged with possession of a controlled substance.
McGougin said investigators began hearing Ball’s name from street sources months ago, and began surveillance of the woman’s residence.
McGougin said an undercover agent called the Ball’s home on Thursday offering 30 Xanax pills. McGougin said Ball agreed to the exchange and met the agent in an alley near her home late Thursday afternoon.
“We had the agent’s car wired for sound and video, and captured good images of the drugs and the money in the buy,” McGougin said. “She paid $100.”
Online medication sites describe Xanax as a prescription medication generically known as alprazolam, used to treat anxiety and panic disorder.
Brewton City Schools Superintendent Lynn Smith said he had not spoken with Ball, but was notified of her arrest by police. He said no decision has been made on her employment status.
Police said Ball faces a municipal charge of resisting arrest, in addition to the drug possession charge.
“It is a sad situation,” McGougin said, “but she should have been more professional and thought more about the example she sets for students, about her responsibility to parents and their children.”

Man arrested after assault on hospital security www.privateofficer.com
A sheriff’s deputy found 32-year-old Terry Lee Taylor traveling about 75 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone as he followed a fire truck near Dona Ana Road and San Ysidro on Sunday, sheriff’s officials said.
Taylor allegedly refused to stop for the deputy and continued traveling 80 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. He then crashed his vehicle into a median when he lost control at the intersection of El Camino Real and Thorpe Road.
After the crash, Taylor was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies. He was taken to Memorial Medical Center for his injuries and allegedly became combative with hospital staff. He allegedly ran from hospital security and pushed a security guard into a wall, officials said.
A sheriff’s deputy tased Taylor after Taylor allegedly tried to push the deputy.
Taylor removed the prongs from his body and continued to run down a corridor, allegedly trying to hit a doctor with his elbow, officials said. He also allegedly broke a handle to the mop and swung the handle at deputies as they tried to restrain him.
Taylor was tased twice more by deputies, but the tasers had no effect, sheriff’s officials said. He left the emergency room and ran towards the parking lot. He was subdued by deputies and hospital security in the parking lot.
Taylor is charged with one count of aggravated felony fleeing an officer, two counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer (deadly weapon) and one count of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, assault and battery.
Taylor was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the alleged incidents, sheriff’s officials said. He is being detained under $27,000 bond

Ravens player Tony Fein dies www.privateofficer.com
“It’s just extremely sad,” Dee Hobbs said, according to the newspaper. “I’ve talked to members of his family and some of his friends. We don’t want to speculate on the cause of death right now out of respect for his family.”
Fein made it to the last round of cuts with the Ravens before being released. Hobbs told the newspaper that Fein had been working out in his home state of Washington while he waited for another opportunity in football.
Fein was arrested on Aug. 23 and charged with misdemeanor assault on a police officer after an incident at a restaurant at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor in which the officer reportedly mistook his cellular telephone for a handgun. A trial was scheduled Wednesday, but prosecutors notified Fein’s attorney last Thursday that they planned to dismiss the case because of conflicting witness accounts, state’s attorney spokeswoman Marty Burns said.
Fein served in the Army for more than three years and served in Iraq before playing college ball. In two seasons at Ole Miss, he had 136 tackles (77 solo) in 24 games, according to the Ravens Web site. Fein was signed as a free agent in June following a minicamp tryout.
Fein often declined to discuss in much detail his time in Iraq. But he was proud to say how he left home an immature 200-pound high school quarterback and returned from the military as a hard-nosed 245-pound linebacker. He had played at Scottsdale Community College and planned on signing with Michigan State but ended up at Ole Miss because he was intrigued by the chance to replace Butkus Award winner Patrick Willis, who was moving on to the NFL.
“It is so sad to hear this news,” said former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron Tuesday night. “Tony was a great young man, who had served his country then lived his dream of playing middle linebacker in the SEC. He will be sorely missed by his former teammates and coaches.”

Security, police, five others run down atBuffalo Bills game www.privateofficer.com
The injured pedestrians were taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment following an incident involving multiple accidents at about 4:15 p.m. Their identities have not been released by police and their condition is not known.
One of the pedestrians jumped off of a bridge to avoid being struck.
The incident started, Orchard Park Police say, when a person inside a black Jeep was suspected of being involved in drug sales in the stadium lot after the game.
Five minutes after police received the report of suspicious activity, the jeep struck a security car in one of the lots. The jeep then headed outside the lot onto Southwestern Boulevard, where the driver hit a deputy at Abbott Road, police said.
Orchard Park Police tried to stop the driver and another accident occurred, from which the driver also fled.
The driver, police said, then crossed into oncoming traffic, left the road and struck two pedestrians, while a third jumped off a bridge to avoid being struck. The vehicle continued driving and left the road again, striking a telephone pole a quarter-mile away on Southwestern.
The driver attempted to leave the scene and fought with officers before his arrest, police said.
Brandon W. McLean, 19, of Williamsville, was charged with driving while intoxicated and faces other charges related to the incident.
Two Orchard Park police officers, one Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy and one stadium security officer were injured.
The Orchard Park officers and the sheriff’s deputy were treated and released.
Orchard Park Police did not have information about the status of the security officer.
