A deadly week-end for private security officers has left two officers dead, one other shot and two more with stab wounds.
While all of the incidents occurred at different businesses and in different states, they all had the same underlying tones to the attacks; disregard for human life and senseless violence.
In the first reported incident, a security officer who stopped to question a suspicious trespasser at an apartment complex in Bridgeport CT. was stabbed repeatedly and left for dead. The officer is listed in serious condition.
At about the same time Friday, another security officer patrolling the parking lot of a grocery store in Dayton Ohio was shot and killed. Police say that 41 year old Orlyn Charlie Conklin died after a possible confrontation with unknown suspects.
In Chattanooga TN Friday, a security officer on foot patrol of a city property said a vehicle with several males drove up and began firing at him. Robert Underwood was shot and is listed in good condition. Police say there is no motive in this shooting.
On Saturday, Oakland California police were called to a deadly shooting at an Auto Zone store near the intersection of 101st Avenue and International Boulevard.
Police say two men entered the store just after 7:00 p.m and began arguing with a store security guard.
Moments later, the men pulled out a gun and shot the guard three times. Before fleeing from the scene, the men stole the security guards gun.
The guard was transported from the scene by ambulance to Eden hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.
A representative from St. Moritz Security Services, Inc. says the victim was a man in is 50′s who had been working for the company for the past couple of years.
A loss prevention agent employed by Kohl’s attempted to stop a shoplifter and as he was walking the man back into the store, police say that the suspect pulled a knife and began stabbing the security officer without provocation. As the man fled, the security officer fell to the ground in serious condition.
The loss prevention agent is expected to survive his wounds police say.
A female security officer on duty at a Rockford IL. school tried to break up a fight and was assaulted by numerous students police say. The officer received broken teeth, bruises on her face and other injuries and was transported to an area hospital in good condition. The suspects have been arrested.
More than twenty other assaults on private security officers have been reported so far this week-end and a total tally should be available next week.
