Myrtle Beach club security nab armed men www.privateofficer.com

Myrtle Beach SC Jan 3 2010

PRIVATE OFFICER NEWS

http://www.privateofficer.com/ Security officers working at a local nightclub called police after several armed men caused a disturbance at the club early New Year’s morning.

Security officers at Club Groove on Broadway Street called police to report a man with a gun inside the club.

While police were responding to the nightclub, security according to arrest warrants, detained four men until members of Myrtle Beach’s Street Crimes Unit arrived to make the arrests.

Police found four handguns inside of a Cadillac that was parked at the club. Police said only one of the guns was properly stowed.

Among those arrested are a teenager, two convicted felons and a 22-year-old with close to two dozen pending criminal charges.

The charges and names of those arrested follow:

Dameion Alston, 19, Myrtle Beach: unlawful carrying of a pistol; pointing and presenting a firearm at a person
Calvin Ford, 22, Myrtle Beach: unlawful carrying of a pistol
Swava McCrea, 20, Myrtle Beach: unlawful carrying of a pistol; felon in possession of a firearm
Quintrel McCrea, 30, Myrtle Beach: unlawful carrying of a pistol; felon in possession of a firearm

At a bond hearing late Saturday afternoon, 15th Judicial Circuit Deputy Solicitor Jimmy Richardson told a judge that Calvin Ford and Swava McCrea posed a significant danger to the community.

According to Richardson, the solicitor’s office has 19 pending warrants for Ford. Many of them stem from a string of armed robberies.

Swava, Richardson said, shot a man several times during a robbery but was never convicted of the shooting because of uncooperative witnesses. He was convicted of attempted armed robbery and spent a few months in prison.

Judge Clifford Welsh agreed with Richardson and denied bond for Ford and Swava McCrea.

“That’s going to stop today,” Judge Welsh said of Ford bonding out of jail so many times before.

“I think (Ford’s) ‘one more last chance’ ended about 12 charges ago,” Welsh told the court room.

Welsh set a $12,500 bond for Quintrel McCrea, whose previous record included an assault charge from ten years ago.

Dameion Alston’s bail was set at $10,000, and Richardson said Alston did not have a prior criminal record.

All four men will make an initial appearance in circuit court on February 19, 2010.

Teacher arrested for rape of student www.privateofficer.com

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. Jan 3 2009 tampabay.com – A former Pinellas County middle school teacher was arrested in New York, accused of raping a 13-year-old girl.

Michael Scaringe was a respected music teacher at Bay Point Middle School until 1995, when a 15-year-old female student accused him of molesting her in his office.

Scaringe was acquitted of that charge a year later. Now he faces similar charges in upstate New York.

Scaringe reportedly grew up in Saranac Lake and was hired as a youth center director in September.

A 13-year-old girl who frequents that youth center says the 61-year-old Scaringe raped her.

“He’s the director of the youth center in Saranac Lake, so he knows a lot of kids, and she was one of the kids that goes there,” explained New York State Police investigator James Monty.

Scaringe was arrested on Friday and charged with first-degree rape. Monty said investigators tried to move quickly on the case simply because of his position at the youth center.

He has reportedly also been working as a substitute teacher at a Catholic elementary school.

“We don’t want to expose any more kids if he has more access,” added Monty.

Investigators say the alleged rape happened before Christmas, but would not say more specifically when, or if it happened at the youth center.

Home invasion suspect captured at casino www.privateofficer.com

SAINT PAUL, Minn.Jan 3 2010 — A man accused in two traumatic home invasions is now behind bars in the Ramsey County Jail.

53-year-old Michael Lee Pye has been on the run from police for nearly two weeks.
He’s accused of breaking into two St. Paul homes beating up one resident and tying up another.
On Barret Street, the neighborhood where the attacks happened, residents are happy a suspect has been arrested.
Sharen Dahm says, “I think it’s wonderful. This is such a nice quiet neighborhood and you hate to have something like that happen.”
Pye was arrested at Mystic Lake Casino on Friday.

Janet Dunnom, spokesperson for the St. Paul Police says, “Somebody had recognized him from the news media reports… And so they notified security at the casino. He was arrested and transported to Ramsey County.”
St. Paul Police suspect Pye of attacking a 66-year-old man in this home on December 21st, hitting him in the head with a bag of free weights.
That man’s wife, Toddy Schmidt said that day, “I saw my husband come out of the driveway, when he was bleeding, and he said somebody broke in the house.” She said her husband needed 10 stitches on his head.
Once police believe Pye left the Schmidt home, they believe he also broke into another home one block down and tied up an 84-year-old woman and her 3-year-old great-granddaughter, eventually stealing her car and using her ATM card. In fact a photo of a man using that card helped police identify Pye as a suspect and issue a warrant for his arrest.

The family of one of the victims today said they are glad the suspect is behind bars, but did not want to comment on camera.
Pye has been charged with burglary, aggravated robbery and kidnapping. He could appear in court as soon as Monday.
Neighbor Rebecca Foss says, “I think it will provide some closure and a greater sense of safety for the neighbors who were attacked by this man.”
But Foss says it may still take a while before the fear in this neighborhood wears off.
She says, “We have been double checking our doors every night.”
