Shoplifter steals on the way to court www.privateofficer.com
Security officers at Burlington Coat Factory in Fairgrounds Square Mall stopped Deanna L. Gomez, 29, of the 400 block of North Fifth Street on Monday shortly before her hearing at District Judge Dean R. Patton’s office, investigators said.
According to court records:
Store security turned Gomez over to Muhlenberg police, who knew she had a hearing before Patton on a charge that she stole merchandise from Kmart along North Fifth Street Highway on Nov. 14.
Police took her to Patton’s office, where she waived a hearing in that case.
Patton revoked her $25,000 bail in the initial case, then set bail at an additional $25,000 on the new charge. She remained in Berks County Prison on Thursday in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The wounded suspect, Brandon Leavy, 20, collapsed in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second suspect got away but police were tracking him and working on a number of leads.
