Florence SC Jan 12 2010 Police are investigating a Sunday incident where a club security guard was struck with blunt object, then severely beaten by a crowd of club patrons, Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines said.

It happened just after midnight at Club Rain on West Palmetto Street , which police said is patronized mainly by people in their teens and early 20s, when someone called E-911 dispatch to report a fight in progress.

A witness who was in the parking lot said she saw a crowd of girls running out of the club while pushing and fighting one another, Raines said. A security guard who intervened in the fight was attacked by a large crowd of boys who rushed out of the club after the girls.

The security guard was struck by a lead pipe or stick by someone in the crowd and fell to the ground, Raines said. The witness said the mob continue to beat and kick the guard before grabbing the weapon and running away from the club.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw a large crowd standing in the parking lot and discovered another injured person. The second victim, an 18-year-old man, was struck above his eye with a brick, Raines said. The victim later told police his attacker seemed to have come from behind and he had no idea who hit him.

Colorado Springs CO Jan 12 2010 Police are looking for two people who they say opened fire on security officers at an area Wal-Mart.

They could be in a red, early 90s model Pontiac Grand Prix or Grand Am with a Colorado temporary tag in the back window.

Nightclub security shoot it out with armed man www.privateofficer.com

Lancaster PA Jan 12 2010
By: Brett Davis/Staff
PRIVATE OFFICER NEWS
Police are looking to arrest a man they say was involved in a shoot-out with provate security officers outside a Manheim Township nightclub earlier this month.

According to police, Keith Martin Thompson, 29, formerly of Rockland Street, displayed a handgun during an altercation Jan. 2 inside the Mezmerize Lounge, located inside Days Inn at 1492 Lititz Pike. Security officers confronted Thompson and several gunshots were exchanged.

The incident continued outside the establishment, where Thompson and security personnel exchanged more gunfire as Thompson fled in a vehicle, nearly striking a security officer with his car, police said.

Charges were filed last Tuesday before District Judge David Miller, and a warrant was issued for Thompson on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, persons not to possess firearms and possession of firearm without a license.

Manheim Township Police Sgt. Tom Rudzinski said”this is a guy who is out there, who has a gun and apparently isn’t afraid to use it,” Rudzinski said. “There is a significant danger to the public, and the sooner we can get him in custody the better.” And we need to get him off the street quickly

Police ask anyone with information on Thompson’s whereabouts to contact them at 569-6401. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the Manheim Township Crime Tip Line at 569-2816.

Shoplifter sent to prison for injuring security agent www.privateofficer.com

Cleveland OH Jan 12 2010
news-herald.com A Cleveland woman was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for stealing groceries at a Willowick Marc’s and then striking a security guard with her car as she escaped.

Atosha Redrick, 32, and 26-year-old Cleveland resident Tiffany Sanders left the Lake Shore Boulevard store in August without paying for $59.15 worth of groceries.

A female security guard — recognizing Redrick as someone who had shoplifted at the store the week before — followed the women to the parking lot, Chief Assistant Lake County Prosecutor Karen Kowall said.

Instead of stopping, the women — with Redrick at the wheel — escaped in a Ford Taurus, striking the 31-year-old security guard, breaking a bone and dislocating her right ankle.

“The security officer did what she was supposed to do,” Kowall said.

“Now she has six screws in her ankle and cannot return to work.”

Police attempted to pull over Redrick, but Redrick did not stop until she got near East 170th Street in Cleveland.

Redrick pleaded guilty last month in Lake County Common Pleas Court to aggravated robbery and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.

Redrick said her criminal behavior led to her losing her nursing license and time with her children.

Assistant Lake County Public Defender Margaret Campbell asked Judge Vincent A. Culotta to give Redrick probation with local jail time, plus treatment for her drug and mental health issues.

“This was basically a shoplifting that went bad,” Campbell said.

“Her friend told her there was a warrant for her arrest, and Atosha panicked. She does not recall hitting the individual. If she had realized she had injured someone, she would have stopped and done the right thing. She made poor choices that turned a simple shoplifting into a horrible accident.”

Culotta said he had no choice but to send Redrick to prison because the security guard — who did not attend the hearing — suffered serious and permanent physical harm.

In addition, Redrick was on probation and out on bond for a different felony theft offense when she was arrested for the Willowick case.

“You knew police were following you, but you kept going,” said the judge, who also suspended Redrick’s driver’s license for six years after her release.

Redrick could have received up to 11 1/2 years in prison.

Redrick’s co-defendant/passenger previously pleaded no contest to and was found guilty of a misdemeanor theft charge in Willoughby Municipal Court. Sanders was sentenced to a $1,000 fine with $800 suspended and 90 days in jail with 80 days suspended.

Rookie New Haven officer fired over drunken outburst www.privateofficer.com

NEW HAVEN CT Jan 12 2010
Source: NHRegister— A rookie police officer is scheduled to face a judge later this month in connection with an alleged drunken outburst at a bar on a night when he was supposed to be working.

He will face the Board of Police Commissioners Tuesday, however, to determine whether he will still have a job when he returns to Superior Court.

Police Chief James Lewis has recommended Jason Bandy, 24, who has just over a year with the department, be fired.

Bandy was arrested in December for an October incident in which police say he urinated on the floor of a bathroom at a downtown bar, cursed at employees when they confronted him and flashed his badge when a bouncer told him he had to leave.

“We filed 10 violations against him,” Lewis said. “We have the criminal misconduct, and just as important to me is the fact that he was being paid by the taxpayers at the time these things took place because he had called in sick.”

A third factor working against Bandy was that he allegedly flashed his badge and abused his authority, Lewis said.

Lewis, as chief, has the authority to suspend an officer for up to 15 days. Any more severe punishment must be given by the police board. It’s the officer’s choice whether to have Tuesday’s hearing open to the public.

The incident happened after closing Oct. 30 at Center Street Lounge, 84 Orange St. According to witness and police accounts, Bandy started urinating on the floor of a bathroom that a female employee was cleaning and allegedly cursed at her and told her to shut up.

When a bouncer was summoned, Bandy allegedly pulled out his badge and said, “Do you know who I am?”

An extra-duty police officer who was working at the bar that night then confronted him and asked him whether he, in fact, was a city police officer. Bandy refused to answer the questions, initially denied that he was a police officer, and dismissively told him, “Don’t worry about it,” police said.

On his way out, Bandy reportedly spat at the bar and kicked a pile of garbage that was in his way.

Bandy was due in court Friday, but his case was continued to Jan. 25.

In the hallway, his attorney, Gregory Cerritelli, declined comment.

“He’s obviously going before the police commission Tuesday. It wouldn’t be prudent to comment now.”
