A teacher at Omaha North High School was arrested Tuesday on suspicion that he had sex with a student.
Joseph Abdalla, 38, was charged with first-degree sexual assault. Police said the victim was a 15-year-old girl.
According to a police report, Abdalla and the girl had sex numerous times at his Omaha apartment near 94th and Burt streets.
The sexual relationship happened over a period of four months, police said.
“Somebody had information that it was possibly occurring, and did the right thing and contacted detectives,” said police spokesman Jacob Bettin.
The victim’s mother spoke to KETV NewsWatch 7 and said she wants the teacher to pay for the alleged crime against her daughter.
Abdalla was not the girl’s teacher, said Omaha Public Schools spokeswoman Janice Garnett.
Abdalla is listed as a science teacher on Omaha North’s Web site. He was also the assistant girls’ tennis coach. He’s been with the school for the past four years.
Police said they had no information of other victims.
According to a professional background statement, Abdalla holds a Masters degree in biology from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Abdalla also received his teaching certificate in 2009 from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, according to a UNO spokeswoman.
Garnett said the school district wants Abdalla fired.
“We want to create that atmosphere of trust and safety, and that’s what we’re doing,” she said.
Abdalla will make his first court appearance on Thursday morning.

Former NC teacher pleads guilty of rape of student www.privateoffcer.com
Jessica Wishnask, 27, will serve 42-51 months in jail, but will get credit for time she has already served. Additionally, she will have to register as a sex offender for 30 years.
Wishnask’s attorney said they accepted the plea deal because she has a daughter at home and didn’t want to miss out her life.
The former teacher was arrested in June 2009, for having indecent liberties of a 15-year-old boy.
The teacher was suspended from Williston Middle School twice toward the end of 2008.
She left New Hanover County and became a teacher at Pactolus Elementary School in Pitt County. Wishnask resigned from the school after she was arrested.
The New Hanover County school board released some information from the personnel file of a former teacher, after her arrest.
The file explained that Wishnask was suspended while two internal investigations were taking place during the time she taught at Williston Middle School in the fall of 2008.
School board members say Wishnask was not accused of a crime during those investigations, but it was observed that she had been in a locked classroom with a male student. She was later seen talking to that student again after she had been instructed not to.
According to school board members, neither investigation revealed any evidence of illegal contact.

Student sues schools, police, security after being shot www.privateofficer.com
Wilson says he was unarmed when he entered Wendell Phillips Academy High School in Chicago on Jan. 22, 2008. School security officer Bennie Parker searched him when he got to school, which is mandatory, Wilson says. He says Parker, a Chicago Public Schools employee, shouted “Gun!” when he found the game console.
Wilson says he ran from the building “because he had been in trouble for having a PSP [Portable Play Station] at school before in violation of the rules and he feared being disciplined.”
Wilson says Parker and Chicago police Officer Anthony Davis, who was providing security at the school, ran after him.
Wilson says that as he purchased his transit card, Davis, “without warning,” shot him twice in the back and once in the side of his torso. Davis patted him down as he lay bleeding on the ground and found no gun on or near him, the student says.
Wilson claims Davis left the scene for 10 minutes while another officer “planted a gun at the scene to make it appear that the plaintiff had a gun so Defendant Davis could provide false testimony that he shot the plaintiff in self defense.”
Wilson says he was handcuffed while three officers showed up and “intentionally mishandled forensic evidence,” including the planted gun.
He claims the police officers made up a bogus story for the arrest report.
Wilson undisclosed damages for physical injuries, emotional anxiety, fear, pain and suffering and monetary loss.
He sued the City of Chicago, its Board of Education, seven police officers and the school security guard, for excessive force, false arrest, violation of due process and conspiracy
He is represented in Cook County Court by David Lipschultz with Gregory E. Kulis & Associates.

Security officer stops crime spree www.privateofficer.com
news channel 8 – A security guard may be responsible for stopping a crime spree Monday night.
It all started with two armed robberies and a car theft at the Riverview Park Apartments near 21st and South Jackson Avenue.
Police found the car abandoned a few blocks away, but no suspects. A short time later, a Utica Square security guard witnessed what he believed was a drug deal and began to pursue the car as it was leaving.
Just as police arrived, three people got out of the car and scattered. One of them climbed onto the roof of a business, but officers were able to surround the building and get him down.
Two of the three men were captured and police say both had a large amount of marijuana on them. The suspects were also identified by the robbery victims.
A third suspect was able to get away.
Laid-off Cleveland police will work security www.privateofficer.com
Many of those officers came to the union hall for information and help. The union will pay them about $1,000 a month.
And Sheriff Bob Reid will make them “Special Deputies,” with police powers, so they can perform security work.
The reality of the layoffs now starting to sink in.
“I think it finally hit me when I had to turn in my gun and badge, which I worked so hard to get,” said laid-off Officer Brent Hathaway.
The city argues that the union should accept 4 percent concessions to help fill a big budget hole. Many other unions have approved concessions, saving 240 jobs.
“We asked for minor concessions, basically four cents on the dollar. We hope they come back to the table. We can’t create money. We can’t print money,” said Cleveland Safety Director Martin Flask.
Mayor Frank Jackon’s insisting on concessions to help fill a $23 million budget hole.
The CPPA proposed delaying payments from court settlements, having schools pay for officers performing security work, and shifting schedules to save money.
The city’s insisting on givebacks of fees and paid days off.
“If the union decided to accept concessions, we would get members back on the street in 72 hours,” Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath promised.
CPPA President Steve Loomis calls his officers the busiest and lowest paid big-city department in Ohio.
“They won’t balance the budget on our backs,” he said.
Some laid-off officers are still hopeful.
“When they call us back, I’ll be ready to work again. This is what I do. I’m a police officer,” said laid-off officer Johnny Harris.
But right now, there’s no sign when that might happen.
