Louisville “Teacher of the Year” arrested for sex with student www.privateofficer.com
Timothy Lands, former Bullitt Central High School “teacher of the year”, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, and is being held in the Bullitt County jail. A conviction for sexual abuse in the first-degree carries a five to ten year prison sentence.
Reportedly the sexual activity between Lands and his student – said to include oral sex and masturbation – actually took place on school grounds. Although sixteen is the age of consent in Kentucky, there is a specific law against sexual conduct between a teacher and a student.
This isn’t the first controversy to erupt at this school. Though we make no judgment on the veracity of his statements, a commentor calling himself “Feynman” on the C-J article about it noted:
Who is running that place? A student with a gun, girls filming fights and putting them on the web, former students killing babies, and a super that chases women at the board. I don’t know what they are thinking about at that school but it isn’t education. Start at the top of that school and start firing people.
WLKY quoted Eric Farris, attorney for the Bullitt County Schools, as saying, “Mr. Lands has been an exemplary teacher. He has been at Bullitt Central High School for approximately eight years.”
Landis is currently suspended with pay.
