Teacher arrested for inappropriate text messages www.privateofficer.com
Source: APP.com — A Pinelands Regional High School math teacher accused of sending inappropriate text messages to two female students has been arrested.
Matthew T. Martin, 37, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and child luring. He was arrested at his Forked River home Tuesday without incident, police said.
Police said the investigation began in December. According to a criminal complaint, Martin sent text messages of a sexual nature to two female students, identified in the complaint as a 15-year-old and 16-year-old, on Nov. 30. He is also accused trying to lure one of those girls to the school’s third floor after hours, during a theatrical performance, to engage in sexual intercourse.
Bail for Martin has been set at $100,000 with no 10 percent option.
The district did not immediately respond to an inquiry about his current employment status.
Lacey police assisted Little Egg Harbor police in making the arrest. Little Egg Harbor Detective Steve Bogart is the investigating officer.
Teacher arrested at school for drug offenses www.privateofficer.com
David Rey Ramirez, 5th grade Science teacher at General Ricardo Sanchez Elementary School was arrested on his way to class last Thursday.
Plain clothes agents came to the school and picked him up.
The school district says they were told he was being taken in for questioning.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS discovered that Ramirez was indicted last December on charges of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute at least one thousand kilos of marijuana.
He continued teaching for more than a month because nobody at the school district was aware of his indictment.
Superintendent of schools Roel A. Gonzalez says, “We had no knowledge of anything. As soon as we got information and it was brought to light we acted on it.”
Ramirez made an initial court appearance in Laredo earlier today.
The school district says he has been suspended with pay.

Waterloo teacher arrested on sex charges www.privateofficer.com
Source:Chicago Tribune – Authorities in Waterloo say they have arrested a West High School teacher who was suspended last week during an investigation of alleged sexual misconduct.
Police charged 52-year-old Larry David Twigg with five counts of lascivious acts with a minor Tuesday. He was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail and later released on bond.
Capt. Tim Pillick of the Waterloo Police says the misdemeanor charges stem from incidents involving the same minor, a 17-year-old male student.
The charges state that Twigg was in a position of authority over the student and persuaded him to partially disrobe for the purpose of arousing or satisfying his sexual desire.
Twigg is a computer teacher at West High. He was placed on administrative leave for alleged inappropriate behavior with a student.
Security officer killed in possible robbery www.privateofficer.com
Police were called to the Manheim auto auction facility — formerly Bay Cities Auto Auction — around 5:30 a.m., after a caller reported a possible hit-and-run accident victim.
Officers found one victim, a security guard at the facility, outside the gate. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A search of the area found a second man had been slain in the auction yard parking lot.
Officials have not released the name of either victim, but the second man is believed to be a truck driver based out of Medford, Ore.
An official cause of death for either victim has not been released.
An overhead video of the scene taken from a TV helicopter showed a transport truck backed into a number of cars, with one of its wheels off the ground and slowly spinning. A black sedan with a shattered rear window also was shown.
“There is nothing to indicated that the victims did anything to contribute to their murder,” police Lt. Chris Orrey said.
She said police have not established a motive, but “are not ruling out” robbery.
Employees locked themselves in buildings at the yard as a host of law enforcement agencies scoured the 50-acre lot for suspects.
“I got here at 6 and was walking across the lot to go to work,” said an employee who didn’t want to be identified. “Someone ran over and told me to get in the shop and lock all the doors.”
He said he saw “a ton of cops” going through the lot. They remained locked in buildings for more than three hours.
Orrey said the search — which included police dogs from BART police and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office — didn’t turn up any suspects.
Orrey said police had no suspect descriptions to release Tuesday evening.
The area where the bodies was found is largely industrial, and Orrey said it’s rare for crimes other than auto theft to occur there.
The slayings were the fourth and fifth to occur in Hayward this year. There were seven in all of 2009.
Police ask anyone with information to call them at 510-293-7197.
