http://www.privateofficer.com The man who wanted to be the mayor of a small New Mexico town has less of a chance of winning today after police say he was arrested.
Mayoral candidate Mark Santomenna, 36, pled no contest in front of Judge Jim Naranjo at Magistrate Court Wednesday, Feb. 10, to a charge of shoplifting.
According to court records, the charge stemmed from a theft that occurred on Friday, Jan. 29 at a circle K store.
Officer Wes Mauldin was dispatched to the store on South California at 9:45 p.m., where the clerk said Santomenna had consumed a corn dog, chips, bean dip, and fountain drink while wandering around the store.
The clerk stated to police that Santomenna then left without paying for the items.
Mauldin then located him and cited him for theft for eating $4.20 worth of merchandise without paying.
A plea of No Contest merely means that the defendant does not deny or agree with the charge but believes that there would be enough evidence to prosecute and take the case to trial and possibly convict.
There was no word on the punishment in this case.
