Bay County Fla May 24 2010 A man suspected of stealing DVDs from Walmart ran straight to an unmarked patrol car thinking it was his getaway vehicle, according to a Bay County Sheriff’s Office report.

Damon Demetrius Love, 35, of Panama City, was charged with retail theft Friday after a deputy climbed out of the car and handcuffed him on the ground.

In an incident report, the deputy wrote he saw Love “running full strength in my direction” out of Walmart.“I first thought he was running toward me for important assistance,” the deputy wrote.

Then the deputy saw Love appeared to be carrying a stack of DVDs. He turned on his spotlight and ordered Love to stop.

The deputy said Love claimed “when he saw my headlights at the north end of the parking lot, he thought I was his ‘partner’ and started running towards me.

He wouldn’t say who his real partner was, only that the deputy must have scared him off.

Love had 16 DVDs worth about $145, according to the report.
