MEMPHIS, Tenn. June 22 2010 – Memphis Police are investigating a shooting incident where a security guard shot an unruly shoplifter at a Frayser-area grocery store Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 11:30pm at Super Lo Foods on the 3300-block of N. Watkins near Frayser Blvd.

The 37-year old male victim was reportedly a habitual shoplifter, who attacked the armed security guard when he refused to leave the store. The guard opened fire on the man, shooting him several times.

When officers arrived on the scene, the victim had fled the store to a nearby business and was located outside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to The Med in critical condition.

The security guard arrived on the scene after the officers’ arrival and was taken into custody without incident for questioning.

The victim has since been released from the hospital.

This investigation is ongoing. It is unknown at this time if charges will be filed.
