In small town, Normal, in rural Illinois things were anything but normal Thursday when a shoplifting suspect decided to escape the grasps of a store loss prevention officer by pulling a knife and cutting the agent.
Police said the incident occurred at the Meijer store located at 1900 E. College Ave., after security spotted the man identified as Matthew Thorne, 18, who listed his address as a Bloomington hotel, stealing several items.
When the security officer approached Thorne he pulled a large knife and attacked the security officer cutting him several times including on the leg.
Security was able to subdue the man while police responded to the store.
Thorne has been charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony and was transported to the county detention center.
Thorne was being held in McLean County jail in lieu of posting $10,000.
The security officer received minor injuries and things got back to normal.
