INDIANAPOLIS IN Oct 11 2010 — Indianapolis police say an off-duty officer working security at a night club was shot while breaking up a fight.

Police say 39-year-old Kerry Morse was in stable condition at Wishard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. They say several people believed to have been involved in the fight are being questioned.

A police news release says Morse was shot about 2:50 a.m. Sunday. It says he was working at Club Level in downtown Indianapolis.

Police say Morse has been with the department for 4 1/2 years.

Police spokesman Paul Thompson tells The Indianapolis Star that the fight may have originated inside the club and then spilled into the street. He says Morse was in uniform when he was shot.
