The latest security-police news

Scranton PA Oct 25 2010 police are searching for an Eynon resident who allegedly hit a Viewmont Mall security officer with his Jeep and then fled the scene.

Robert Ryan, 43, of 508 1st St., Eynon, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault, accidents involving personal injury (hit and run), simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and retail theft. He was last seen driving a black Jeep Cherokee with a Pennsylvania registration of DRK-6953. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

On October 8, a Sears department store loss prevention officer at the Viewmont Mall in Dickson City told police that he observed Ryan over the store surveillance cameras concealing a hacksaw blade up his sleeve. When he followed Ryan, he said he personally watched him put two bottles of carpentry glue up his sleeve and then proceed out the front door.

According to the security officer’s report to police, he asked Ryan to stop and turn over the stolen items; he ignored him and got into his vehicle. The officer said he told Ryan that he was going to call the police and stood behind the Jeep in an effort to prevent him from leaving, but Ryan then backed into the officer, striking him and knocking him to the ground. He then proceeded to flee the scene, but police reported that two witnesses were present in the parking lot and watched the incident unfold.

After studying security footage and comparing it with Ryan’s driver’s license photograph, police confirmed their suspect. Anyone with more information is asked to contact Detective James Pappas at (570) 558-8428 or call 911.
