Security officers nab car thief www.privateofficer.com

COSTA MESA CA Dec 18 2010 – Security guards from a dance club found a patron’s reportedly stolen car and held a man who was taking valuables from it, police said.
Matthew Cervantes, 20, from Santa Ana, was taken into custody early Friday after guards from the Shark Club detained him for police, authorities said.
Police Department responded to the call of the stolen car at about 1:30 a.m., said Sgt. Bryan Wadkins.
The car owner told police he was at the club, at 841 Baker St., with a woman when he noticed his car keys were missing.
He then walked to the parking lot and reported his 2008 Kia Spectra stolen when he could not find it, Wadkins said.
Police responded to the call as the club was closing, Wadkins said.
At about the same time, security guards from the club were driving through the neighborhood to make sure patrons were not loitering, he said.
The guards then spotted a man two blocks from the club who appeared to be taking valuables from the Kia, Wadkins said.
“He had already taken some computer equipment and a purse,” he said.
Guards kept the man in the area until officers arrived.
