The latest security-police news

San Antonio TX Jan 22 2011 Two men, including one who police say posed as a security guard, were arrested overnight on unrelated aggravated robbery charges and remained jailed Thursday on $100,000 bail each.

Each was charged with pointing or brandishing a weapon in connection with robberies of a fast food restaurant and a game store. Police suspect that each man may be involved in numerous other recent armed robberies.

Charles M. Saenz, 40, was charged with the stick-up of a Game Stop store in the 3800 block of South New Braunfels on Tuesday.

Employees and witnesses told police they were forced into a back room while two men took cash and two game consoles worth several hundred dollars each.

Police said they received an anonymous tip about Saenz on Wednesday and he was picked up Thursday afternoon. The second man has not yet been found, police said.

In the second case, Jeffrey Valdez, 20, is suspected in the robberies of up to eight Subway sandwich shops and Dollar Stores, said San Antonio Police Sgt. Jaime Trevino.

Valdez faces a first-degree felony charge in connection with the robbery of a Subway restaurant in the 5800 block of S.W. Military Drive on Jan. 8. He allegedly took the store’s cash, as well as a clerk’s wallet and rings.

Valdez is suspected of donning a private security firm uniform jacket and posing as a guard to rob other businesses, Trevino said.

“We are still looking at several other” cases, Trevino said. “And we expect that there will be between five and eight more” robbery charges filed.
