Colorado police charge MP with being police impersonator www.privateofficer.com
Colorado Springs CO Jan 29 2011 An arrest has been made in connection with the November police impersonator incident in Castle Rock.
SPC William Lawler, a 21-year-old Fort Carson soldier, was arrested Wednesday. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail, but has been released on bail.
According to Ft. Carson, Lawler is with the 759th Military Police Battalion.
He has been charged with impersonating a police officer, unlawful sexual contact, false imprisonment and audible/visual signals on a non-emergency vehicle. Impersonating a police officer is a felony charge; the other charges are all misdemeanors.
On the morning of November 24, near the Home Depot on Allen Street, a woman was pulled over by a tan-colored Ford Crown Victoria with red and blue lights displayed by the rear view mirror. The man identified himself as “Sergeant Schnider,” and initially imitated a traditional traffic stop, asking the woman for her driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance. When the woman got out of her car to find her license inside her trunk, the suspect told her to stand against the vehicle, where he then fondled the woman while frisking her. He then left the scene, telling the woman he was only giving her a warning, not a traffic ticket.
The woman reported the incident to police, who determined it was an impersonator.
The arrest was made following a two month investigation by Castle Rock and Colorado Springs police.
