JACKSON, Miss.March 17 2011 — Jackson police have dropped all charges against a motel security guard in connection with a shooting.
Mark Owens was shot in the back at the Metro Inn on March 2. Police had originally said he and security guard Jason Wells had been arguing prior to the shooting. Wells was taken into custody, but police later dropped the charges and released him.
Police have now arrested Rashaad Essex in connection with the shooting. Investigators followed leads that led them to Essex, who police said admitted to the shooting.
Essex is charged with aggravated assault, police said.
