Charlotte NC March 17 2011 A teacher assistant at a Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary school was arrested Wednesday after authorities said another teacher found sexually explicit video involving a child on his video camcorder.

James Edward Meskill, 38, who works at J.H. Gunn Elementary School and lives in Cabarrus County, was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and a first-degree sex offense.

Late Tuesday, CMS police told Cabarrus County authorities that a teacher at the school had borrowed the camcorder from Meskill and found what she believed was child pornography.

On Wednesday, investigators said they determined that Meskill made the recordings and committed sex acts with a minor in the video. The child is not a student at the school, according to the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office.

Meskill was being held late Wednesday in the Cabarrus jail under $300,000 bond.
