ARKADELPHIA, Ark.March 23 2011 — Authorities say a former police officer shot and killed himself on a houseboat near Arkadelphia after he kidnapped his ex-wife and her new husband.
Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson said Monday that 50-year-old Andrew Scott Pettit took the couple at gunpoint on Friday to an island on DeGray Lake where Pettit had married the woman. Watson says the couple was released uninjured.
The sheriff says Pettit shot himself and was dead by the time authorities reached the houseboat. Watson says he was once a police officer in White Hall and had also worked as a firefighter.
