STOCKTON, CA May 23 2011- Right where criminal cases are adjudicated everyday, it appears a court accounting employee was stealing.

Stephanie Bohrer, spokeswoman for San Joaquin County Superior Court, said last Friday accounting supervisors discovered a number of criminal and traffic case fee cash deposits had not been made for several days in April and May.

The preliminary investigation indicates an estimated $42,000 was not deposited, Bohrer said. All other non-cash payments have been accounted for, she said.

On Monday, supervisors confronted the employee responsible for making the deposits and that person resigned.

Bohrer said a criminal investigation was pending.

In addition, an audit by the state’s court administration office has been requested by the court executive officer.
