Bell County KY May 26 2011 A longtime teacher at Bell County High School was arrested at school Tuesday after he showed up for work intoxicated, state police say.

School officials called state police at 10:58 a.m. to report that Thomas A. Baker, 48, was “in the classroom under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” according to a news release. Baker, of Cumberland Gap, Tenn., met with state troopers outside his classroom and was arrested.

Baker has been a teacher for the Bell County public schools for more than 20 years, said Superintendent George Thompson. He teaches math.

Thompson said the board’s policy calls for Baker to be suspended while an investigation is conducted.

Baker was charged with public intoxication and taken to the Bell County jail, state police said.
