Gainesville Fla May 26 2011 A man who took exception to a security officer asking him to move his vehicle got a ride in the back of a police car.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, the incident happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Winn-Dixie parking lot at 200 SW 16th Ave. The lot is used by the Veterans Administration Medical Center as an overflow parking area and is patrolled by uniformed security officers.
Police said a 71-year-old security officer directed Glenn Edward Taylor, 55, of Melrose, to move his vehicle because he had parked in the wrong area. Witnesses and the victim told police that Taylor, who works in human resources at the VA, began arguing loudly with the security officer and then used both hands to shove her before fleeing from the lot in his vehicle.
The woman told police she was not injured.
Taylor was arrested at the VA a short time later on charges of aggravated battery on a security guard and battery on a person age 65 or older. He was being held at the Alachua County jail on Wednesday. It was not immediately clear whether he would also face any federal charges.
