LOUISVILLE, Ky. June 24 2011- A Trinity High School teacher was arrested at his home Tuesday and charged for physical harassment for allegedly harassing one of his students while in school. Donald Switzer is being accused of touching one of his students inappropriately in February 2011.

“My clients are very concerned about what happened to their son,” said Thomas Clay, the student’s attorney.

The family wants to remain anonymous, but they claim in February, Switzer touched their freshman son inappropriately. The criminal complaint states Switzer held the student after class each day for almost a week unlawfully. The report says Switzer also groped the boy on the chest and nipples and did not stop at the boy’s request. The student reported the incident in early February to the proper authorities and that is when the investigation began. The Crimes Against Children Unit found enough evidence against Switzer to issue a warrant.

“That arrest was in relation to an incident that had occurred with a child at Trinity High School,” said Alicia Smiley with Metro Police.

Switzer has been teaching at Trinity High School for almost 40 years.

Trinity released a statement Thursday saying, “Mr. Switzer has been on leave since February after a concern was raised by a student.”

For the student making the allegations, his attorney says he plans to come back to Trinity next school year.

“Hopefully this situation will reach a resolution before the new school year,” said Clay. “But if it doesn’t, they’re certainly hoping that the teacher is not placed in any position where he can come in contact with their son again.”

Switzer spoke to WHAS11 and said that he is shocked about the allegation and has never had any accusation like physical harassment made against him in the nearly 40 years he taught at Trinity. However, police will still investigate to see if there are any other students who might have been violated.

“They are continuing with the investigation to see if there are any additional victims,” said Smiley. “At this time we haven’t been able to name any but we are continuing to see any other people come forward.”

Currently, Switzer is out on bail and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
