VIRGINIA BEACH, VA July 24 2011– An up-and-coming junior lightweight boxer, who fought all but one of his bouts in Tampa, was shot and killed at a Virginia Beach oceanfront resort.

Cordaro Simpkins was pronounced dead just after 1:00am this morning at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was 21.

According to a preliminary report by local police, Simpkins and his friends got into an altercation with several males ending with the boxer being shot. The unknown suspects fled the area on foot and the case remains under investigation by the department’s Homicide Squad.

Simpkins had a career 5-1 mark but had not fought since he lost by a TKO last October 20 in North Carolina. It was his first bout outside of Tampa. He began his career July 25, 2009 for One Punch Productions and strung together five straight wins before running into undefeated Evgeny Gradovich at the Blake Hotel in Charlotte.

He was a really good kid,” said One Punch Productions president Terry Trekas. “[Simpkins was] not involved with all the street nonsense we see so much of these days. I can’t even imagine what his family is going through right now.”

Simpkins is survived by his father Daniel Lamb, his mother Wanda Revels, Stepmother Deberrah Hart, Stepfather Reynard Revels, Brothers Daniel Lamb Jr., Christopher Lamb, David Lamb, and countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
