Culver City CA Sept 20 2011 A music teacher charged with attempting to perform lewd acts on an 11-year-old girl is free on bail as he awaits a court hearing, authorities said.

Joseph Lee Hedderich, 34, sent the girl inappropriate photographs and email messages on a cellphone that he supplied to her, Los Angeles police officials say.

The girl’s parent found the messages and contacted police, who then assumed the girl’s identity and continued to contact Hedderich, authorities said.

Hederrich was arrested Sept. 1 in Pacific Palisades when he showed up for a prearranged sexual encounter with the girl, authorities said. He posted $100,000 bail on Sept. 2 and was released from custody.

Police say Hederrich is employed as an independent musical contractor at the Colburn School of Performing Arts, the Westside Academy of Dance, the California Institute of the Arts and the Los Angeles Ballet.
