Andrew J. Pegler-Lynch, 22, of the 4300 block of North Twin Valley Road was charged with retail theft, possessing drug paraphernalia, and possessing and intending to deliver heroin.
He was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Horace Z. Davis and committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail.
According to police:
An employee at the Walmart in the 100 block of Crossings Boulevard spotted Pegler-Lynch putting video games into his knapsack. Pegler-Lynch attempted to walk out the door but was confronted by that employee and another.
Pegler-Lynch pushed the employee away and ran into the parking lot but was stopped by a police officer who was pulling into the lot. He told the officer, Cpl. John W. Scalia, and the employee that he had drugs on him and emptied his pockets.
He would not open his fist until Scalia grabbed it and revealed 60 packets of heroin. Officers also found a scale, lighters and nine video games, valued at $127.
