Cornish reportedly fled the scene in his patrol car when sheriff’s deputies, acting on a tip, arrived at a motel at 7700 Two Notch Road where they had been told a uniformed officer was meeting with a prostitute.
Venessa Perry, 17, was arrested for prostitution at the motel. Cornish was found a few blocks away and arrested, Lott said. An investigation determined that Cornish had paid Perry for sex and that he had met with her more than once, authorities said.
Cornich was being held at the Alvin S Glenn Detention Center Friday night. He has been put on administrative leave without pay, said Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott in a statement. The School Resource Officer at Perry Middle School, Cornish has been with the department since May 2009. He was not on duty at the time of the incident
