Mesa AZ Oct 28 2011 City police arrested a man accused of head-butting and punching a hospital security guard, a court document states.

Frank Cravens Grannis, 26, attempted to leave Mountain Vista Medical Center early Thursday without permission while an I.V. was still attached to his left hand, police said.

When security stopped him from leaving the parking lot in his vehicle, Grannis became belligerent.

Hospital employees called police as Grannis began to fight the guard, according to the court document.

The two men were on the ground fighting when police arrived at the hospital near Crismon Road and Southern Avenue, the report states. Officers assisted the guard and attempted to detain Grannis.

Grannis fought with officers while resisting arrest until officers eventually placed him in handcuffs, police said..

Grannis was arrested on suspicion of assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

The guard had a laceration above his left eye stemming from the head-butt, according to police.

Police later searched Grannis at the jail and found a syringe with drug residue in his sock. Grannis told police he used the syringe for bath salts.
