On Friday, Dec. 23 officers of the Johnson City Police Department arrested Ashley Hope Mullins, 26, of Appalachia, Va.
The arrest was the result of a shoplifting investigation that occurred at Wal-Mart, 3111 Browns Mill Rd. Officers responded to the business after store security reported Mullins was concealing merchandise inside her handbag. Mullins was apprehended by store loss prevention associates as she attempted to leave the business without making payment for the merchandise.
Mullins was found to be in an intoxicated state, and could not respond to questioning or follow instructions. Mullins was taken into custody this date and transported to the Washington County Detention Center.
Once inside the detention center, a search of Mullins and her property revealed an eyeglass case that contained a syringe, Clonazepam and Suboxone. Mullins was arrested on charges of public intoxication, shoplifting and introduction of contraband to a penal facility.
Mullins was held at the Washington County Detention Center with a $6,500 bond. She has a preliminary court date set for Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 9 a.m. in Washington County Sessions Court.
