December 25, 2011 Macy security agent injured
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. Dec 25 2011 - Police say a shoplifting spree gone bad sent a local loss prevention officer to the emergency room.
It happened around noon at Macy’s in Sangertown Square Mall. Police say three to four people were involved.
“A security guard from Macy’s pursued one of the perpetrators outside the store. At that point in time, some people that were with the original actor got involved. A scuffle between them and the security guard developed and they jumped into a car with the merchandise and as they were leaving the parking lot the car came in contact with the security guard,” says Sgt. Robert Philo of the New Hartford Police Department.
By around 12:30 Friday, several New Hartford and Utica Police cruisers were at 1555 Steuben Street in Utica’s Cornhill. There, police handcuffed one woman and put her in a Utica Police car. They searched another woman, having her take off her boots and shake them, then put her into a New Hartford cruiser.
Sgt. Philo says the guard was treated in a local ER for bumps and bruises.
Currently one woman is charged with petit larceny and another is charged on an outstanding arrest warrant out of Utica. There could be more charges, possibly regarding the car hitting the officer and the struggle for the stolen property.
