Orlando Fla Dec 27 2011 A Seminole County deputy sheriff was killed today about 1:15 p.m. when his motorcycle was struck by a Volkswagen Jetta at the intersection of Maitland Boulevard and Gateway Drive, authorities said.

Deputy Matt Miller had been on the job for 24 years, Seminole County Sheriff Don Eslinger said at a news conference at Orlando Regional Medical Center this evening.

Miller, 53, was driving a BMW motorcycle west on Maitland Boulevard when the Jetta turned into his path.

The driver of the Jetta was not immediately disclosed by the Florida Highway Patrol, which is investigating the crash.

According to a preliminary report, the Jetta violated the deputy’s right-of-way.

The 49-year-old driver of the Jetta was transported to ORMC and was listed in critical condition, troopers said.
