ORANGE Fla Dec 31 2011– A woman was struck and killed by a commuter train Thursday morning in Orange during an apparent suicide, police said.
The incident was reported about 6:35 a.m. at Meats Avenue and Orange-Olive Road, Orange police Lt. Dave Hill said. Tracks reopened just after 9 a.m.
The person was walking toward the train on the tracks,” Hill said.
Authorities on Thursday afternoon identified the woman as Hoang Thi Nguyen, 43, of Orange.
Metrolink officials said train 805 on the Inland Empire-Orange County line struck Nguyen south of the Anaheim Canyon Station.
The southbound train travels between San Bernardino and Oceanside.
Laura Magness, a Metrolink spokeswoman, said there were 177 passengers on board who were later transported to the Orange Metrolink station by bus.
At this time it is unknown if the conductor sounded the horn or tried to stop, Magness added.
Trips on train 683 on the Orange County line, which was scheduled to make stops in Santa Ana, Orange and Anaheim on its way to downtown Los Angeles, were canceled, Metrolink officials said via the agency’s Twitter account.
