New York City NY Jan 13 2012 A former Hillcrest High School student has accepted $285,000 from the city to settle a lawsuit claiming he was beaten on two separate occasions by school safety officers for using a cell phone and then again for reporting the attacks to the media.

Rohan Morgan was also taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital in handcuffs for psychiatric evaluation after the second clash, according to the suit.

Morgan, who was 15 when the incidents occurred in 2008, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee as a result of the beatdown which required surgery to repair, the suit stated.

The settlement agreement, filed Wednesday in Brooklyn Federal Court, calls for no admission of wrongdoing on the part of the defendants which included the high school’s principal, vice-principal and 11 school safety officers.

“We felt that settlement was the appropriate resolution,” said city lawyer Brian Farrar.
