WHEATFIELD NY Jan 14 2012— Hundreds of thousands of dollars in wiring, pipes, heating and ventilation equipment allegedly stolen from the Summit Mall have been recovered, and two men have been charged by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrick J. Dugan, 28, of Walmore Road, and Anthony C. Lopiccolo, 42, of Colvin Boulevard, were charged with criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree grand larceny.

The two allegedly stole the goods, valued at more than $500,000, to support heroin addictions.

Deputies said they checked out Dugan’s home on Walmore when they learned that the men may be suspects in the theft of a large amount of copper wire from the Summit Mall. They found the two men in the garage, attempting to burn the rubber casing off the wiring using a torch.

Deputies said that they also found hypodermic needles on the ground and that Dugan admitted they were high on heroin and volunteered to talk to the deputies. Lopiccolo also spoke to deputies, saying that they had “hit the mall,” but he blamed Dugan for what he described as an “epic crime spree.”

Lopiccolo blamed heroin, telling deputies, “It calls to me . . . I would sell my soul for [it].”

Both men gave signed statements to deputies implicating themselves in the theft, according to deputies.

Alfred E. Huff II, of Oberlin Plaza, which manages the Summit Mall, identified the stolen property.

Deputies also made a record of the damage done at the mall in connection with the theft.

Both men were remanded to Niagara County Jail on $5,000 bail after being arraigned in Town of Wheatfield court.
