Prince George MD Jan 28 2012 A former Prince George County corrections officer has been indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday for his role in the death of pretrial detainee Ronnie White more than three years ago, according to NBC Washington.

The indictment charges the officer, 48-year-old Anthony McIntosh, with a federal civil rights violation after he turned his back on White while he was in medical distress in his cell on June 29, 2008, failing to summon medical attention or notifying other corrections officers.

White, 19, was found dead in his cell in the maximum-security section of Prince George’s Corrections Center. He suffered two broken bones in his neck and died of asphyxiation caused by strangulation. The medical examiner initially called it a homicide, but no indictments were made.

White had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder for allegedly running down and killing a Prince George’s County police officer in a stolen truck two days prior.

McIntosh was arrested by the FBI today in New York City. He also faces charges of destruction, alteration or falsification of records in a federal investigation and falsifying a witness statement.

The civil rights offense carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
