Memphis TN Jan 29 2012  Police Officer Melvin Robinson was relieved of duty after he was arrested in a federal investigation.

According to court documents, Robinson first told an FBI Informant he was having money problems, in Novemeber of 2011. The officer agreed to sell 10 kilos of cocaine, at a street value of $300,000.

According to court documents, the FBI informant asked Robinson to pick up the drugs in his police squad car. The exchange was to take place at a south Memphis trucking lot, according to court documents.

The documents also stated Robinson arrived in his uniform while on duty, and grabbed a black duffle bag when he was arrested.

Police Director Toney Armstrong called Robinson a thug, and Mayor AC Wharton promised swift action to figure out why certain officers were tarnishing the reputation of the department which he proudly called, “Memphis’ finest”.
