Buncombe County NC Feb 3 2012 Deputies in Buncombe County have arrested an Owen Middle School teacher on a felony charge of Indecent Liberties with a child.
Kevin Mark Calloway is also charged with secret peeping. Deputies say they are investigating 4 students in connection with the charges.
Calloway is a 6th grade math and science teacher at Owen Middle School. Buncombe County school officials say he has been suspended and the school system will initiate the process to dismiss him permanently.
Calloway has taught at Owen Middle since 1999. He was questioned by school administrators several weeks ago following a parent call which prompted an internal investigation at the school.
That internal investigation was inconclusive, so no further action was taken by the school at that time.
The Superintendent’s office is reviewing whether the school followed correct protocol in their handling of the matter. Pending the outcome of that review, the principal at Owen Middle School, Vicky Matthews, has been placed on leave.
The parents of Calloway’s students will be contacted individually by school administrators today. He remains in the Buncombe County Jail under a $10,000 bond.Teacher Arrested On Indecent Liberties Charge.
