UNION COUNTY, NCFeb 8 2012 – A volunteer coach at a middle school in Union County has been arrested after he is accused of showing pornography to minors.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office website, Joshua Merrill Macdonald was arrested on Friday and charged with Disseminating obscene material to a minor under 16.

Macdonald is a volunteer coach with Marvin Ridge Middle School’s wrestling team, says Luan Ingram, Chief Communications Officer with Union County Public Schools.

Ingram told WBTV the incident happened when the wrestling team was traveling to a competition. That’s when some of the students were traveling with MacDonald and said he showed them the indecent materials.

The students reported the incident to their coach, who then reported it to his boss and Union County Sheriff’s deputies were called, Ingram said.

“We called law enforcement and it became their investigation immediately after that,” Ingram said.

Macdonald is not an employee of Union County Public Schools, Ingram says, because UCPS does not sponsor wrestling on the middle school level.

The wrestling team is sponsored by the Booster’s Club.
