ENFIELD CT March 23 2012 — Enfield police say a state correctional officer killed himself at his home during a standoff with officers after fleeing a minor car accident.
Police say they found 54-year-old Denis Boucher dead from a gunshot wound in his Circle Drive home Wednesday evening. Authorities say Boucher rear-ended a car on Shaker Road at about 4:45 p.m. and took off.
His wife called 911 and fled the house after he arrived home and began loading a rifle. Police SWAT teams surrounded the home shortly after 5 p.m. and urged neighbors to stay in their homes.
Officers attempted to contact Boucher and used smoke bombs to try to get him to come out shortly before 7:30 p.m. Police sent a robot in the home before entering themselves and finding Boucher dead.
