STAMFORD CT April 18 2012– A city man was charged with stabbing a bouncer at a bar on the city’s West Side late Sunday night, police said Monday.
Ismael Esteban Lazaro, 24, of 50 Alden St., was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. He is being held in lieu of $75,000 and was arraigned at state Superior Court in Stamford Monday.
Police Lt. Diedrich Hohn said Lazaro got into an argument with a 38-year-old bouncer at Hugo’s Tacos at 161 Stillwater Ave., as he was being escorted out of the bar for drunken and unruly conduct.
Lazaro ran back into the bar and stabbed the bouncer in the abdomen, Hohn said.
Lazaro took off in the direction of Stamford Hospital as another bouncer ran after him. The second bouncer called police and told them which way Lazaro was going, Hohn said. Patrol officers soon found Lazaro and the 4-inch spring-loaded knife used in the assault and took him into custody, Hohn said.
The injured man is in stable condition and expected to fully recover after being taken to Stamford Hospital, where exploratory surgery was performed, Hohn said.
