Disabled Virginia motorist assaults police, jumps off bridge www.privateofficer.com
CHESTERFIELD, VA May 1 2012- - A Richmond man was taken to the hospital and arrested after hitting a police officer and jumping from a bridge.
It happened around 11:20 p.m. Saturday when police responded to a disabled motorist call on Woods Edge Road at the I-95 overpass.
Chesterfield police said the officer saw Jayvon Clemmons, 26, of the 5600 block of Erich Court, sitting beside his car with a bottle of vodka in his hand. They said Clemmons threw the bottle, striking the officer and then jumped from the bridge. He landed about 30 feet below on a median.
Clemmons was taken to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries. He will be charged with assaulting an officer. He was also wanted for failing to appear in court for a DUI charge.
The officer was also treated at the hospital and released.
