HOUSTON Fla May 1 2012 - As many as three men are wanted after a shootout outside a southeast Houston game room. Houston police said an armed security guard, Steve Martinez, was attacked and robbed early Monday.
The crime happened at a game room in the 3300 block of Broadway Street and Detroit Street at around 2 a.m.
According to police, the three masked gunmen walked up to Martinez in the parking lot and pointed a gun at his face.
“I was just standing outside ready to smoke a cigarette when three males came by me and pointed a gun. So I pulled my gun out, they shot and missed. I shot, don’t know if I hit or not,” said Steven Martinez, security guard assaulted.
Moments after Martinez pulled out his gun, the suspects wrestled Martinez to the ground and stole his weapon, police said.
The men also fired several times, but officials said no one was hit.
“They took his gun. They beat him down a little bit, that’s it. They tried to shoot into his head two times. They missed him,” said Martinez’s brother.
Martinez had only been on the job for nine months.
Police said they are reviewing the security camera video in an effort to track down the shooters. Witnesses said the gunmen took off in a silver Nissan sedan.
Investigators said they believe the robbers were not going to rob the game room, but instead wanted the guard’s weapon.
