Belk LP agent suffers broken hand scuffling with shoplifter www.privateofficer.com

CHARLOTTE, NC June 18 2012- A security guard suffered a broken hand after a scuffle with a shoplifter.

The Belk at Northlake Mall has plenty of surveillance cameras to watch over its wares. One afternoon, the loss prevention people spotted a man who looked familiar– possibly someone who had raised their suspicions in the past.

They zoomed their surveillance cameras in on his every move, as he pretended to shop for clothing.

At one point, he asks a clerk where to find the expensive Polo shirts. After the clerk shows him, he takes a plastic bag and fills it up. Every color, every size, this Polo pilferer wasn’t particular.

After loading his sack, he heads for the door. He’s seen walking outside where a van is waiting in the fire lane.

Suddenly, a security guard comes chasing after him. The guard grabs the man as he gets in. They lock arms and struggle. The driver steps on the gas and the security guard loses his grip, falls and his hand is run over and broken.

No one got a good look at the driver, but CMPD Detective Marty Cuthbertson has a description of the thief. “We have a black male, brown skinned complexion, had on glasses, white t-shirt, jeans, just a black male, that’s all we know, but if you look at the video, someone may recognize him.”

If you can add any valuable information, call Crimestoppers at (704) 334-1600 in Charlotte and you could be eligible for a reward.
