CT Prison Guard Arrested On Drug Charges www.privateofficer.com

CHESHIRE CT July 19 2012
A correction officer who allegedly planned to bring drugs into a prison was arrested Tuesday when he was seen dealing drugs in a commuter lot, police said.

Arcolain Fountain, 46, of Mill Street in East Haven was charged with criminal attempt to convey unauthorized items into a correctional facility, criminal attempt to possess narcotics and criminal attempt to possess a hallucinogenic, the state police stated in a press release.

He was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Meriden on Wednesday. Information about his court appearance was not available.

State police said they and the security division of the Department of Correction had been investigating Fountain since March, when they learned that a correction officer intended to bring drugs into the Cheshire Correctional Institution.

The investigation brought them to the commuter parking lot at Exit 28 off I-84 in Southington on Tuesday, where they saw Fountain involved in a “hand-to-hand narcotics transaction,” the press release says. Members of the state police tactical team made the arrest.

Police seized drugs and a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle at the scene and confiscated handguns from Fountain’s house, the state police said.

He remains an employee of the DOC, spokesman Brian Garnett said Wednesday, but his future employment status has not been determined.
