Los Angeles security officer foils jewelry store robbery www.privateofficer.com

Los Angeles CA July 19 2012 Five people were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of conspiracy after LAPD officers foiled the planned robbery of a downtown jewelry store, police officials say.

The alleged would-be robbers, who were not immediately identified but all had Colorado identification and a history of drug arrests, were overheard by a security guard discussing plans to rob a jewelry store at 7th Street and Broadway, in the heart of the Jewelry District, LAPD Capt. Horace Frank said.

The guard called police with a description of two suspicious vehicles. Officers responded to the area about 1:30 p.m. After further investigation, they arrested five people — four men and a woman — on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police also recovered a gun in each of the cars. Two other suspects fled and have not been located.

“These arrests highlight the importance of effective partnership between law enforcement and members of the community as it pertains to crime prevention” Frank said.
