Fleeing shoplifters crash after leading Ohio police on pursuit www.privateofficer.com
A security guard at Kohl’s department store in the Avon Commons shopping center called police when a man carrying a baby stole merchandise and ran out of the store. Police were told the man “had thrown the baby into his vehicle” and drove off recklessly.
Police saw the car being driven recklessly on Ohio 254 near Ohio 83 and started to chase it at 3:35 p.m. Less than a minute later, police said they would cut off the chase because of the inherent danger of a crash, but just then the car went through a red light at Ohio 254 and 611 and crashed into another vehicle. The impact pushed the second car into a third vehicle.
The suspect, the baby, and the driver of the second car were all injured in the crash and taken to local hospitals.
The suspect is expected to be charged with robbery, drunken driving, child endangering and related offenses.
The names and extent of injuries of the other victims were not available.
